Golden Syrup Review

I had never heard of golden syrup till I bought the Ms.Cupcakes “Best Vegan Cakes in Town” cookbook and Saw the “Golden Syrup Cupcakes” found on page 36. They looked incredible so of course I had to try them, but the key ingredient was not something I was familiar with, and since I wasn’t sure what it was or how it tasted I couldn’t just substitute it with anything. After going to an international market in Atlanta, GA I found golden syrup and I just had to buy it and taste it to see what the hype was all about.

Golden syrup looks just what it sounds like, and it’s like maple syrup but made out of cane sugar, so think about melted sugar in a way. After tasting g the golden syrup it tasted like molasses but a bit milder. I feel that if you were to add maple or agave to molasses you could probably substitute that mixture for the golden syrup.  When you amor with it gives cakes a more sugary molasses taste in my opinion. I used it to make the “Golden Syrup Cupcakes” found in the Ms.Cupcake cookbook.

I honestly don’t think I would buy this product and keep it in my pantry, it’s not an ingredient I am fond of or like for that matter. I can use any other syrup for these recipes or just melt down sugar and it’ll give me the same taste. For me, it’s not worth the hassle of buying it online or driving hours to go get it.
